1/27/2014 – At approximately 0430 hours, Kent Central Alarm alerted Fire Box 60-4 for the working house fire at 8500 Broadneck Rd, Chestertown. The caller advised of vehicles in the driveway with possible rescue. He was not able to get an answer at the door.
First units on the scene advised of fire showing from the Bravo-Charlie corner. Due to manpower limitations, Command 6 (Chief Neal) requested a second alarm. Following a primary search, it was found the only occupant was a dog that was found, deceased.
Several handlines were stretched and the fire was quickly placed under contol. Secondary searches were also negative. Units were on the scene for about two and a half hours. The Red Cross was notified to lend assistance to the occupants.
Companies on the scene included Chestertown, Kennedyville, Rock Hall, Betterton, and Millington from Kent County and Church Hill and Crumpton from Queen Annes County. The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
