10/12/2011 – At their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, October 12, 2011, the Kent County Volunteer Fire Chiefs Association presented their Heroic Citizen’s Award to seven year old Railyn Morris for her actions when a fire broke out in her family’s home last year.
On the morning of October 23, 2010, Railyn was awoken by the sound of smoke detectors going off in her home. Applying knowledge and education that she had received from the fire service, she alerted her family and helped lead them to safety. Because of her actions her father, mother, and younger brother and sister, along with her grandmother, who resided in an adjacent apartment, were able to evacuate the home without injury.
