1/11/2010 – At approximately 9:45 AM Caroline dispatched Station 300 (Denton), Station 100 (Federalsburg), Station 200 (Preston) and Paramedic 13 for a working house fire at 7860 Melvin Road. Paramedic 391 was on Route 404 and advised Caroline they had heavy smoke showing. They were the first unit to arrived on location and reported a two story wood framed structure fully involved and requested a 2nd alarm.
Officer 317 (D. Higgs) arrived on location and assumed “Melvin Road” command. Hose lines were pulled off of Engine 304 and Engine 102, but do to the heavy fire conditions command advised all units it would be a defensive attach only. Once Tower 310 was set up, crews pulled back while the tower was put into service. Officer 117 (J. Holland) was assigned “Water Supply” and Officer 320 (K. Dulin) was assigned “Safety Officer”. Engine 204 was sent to a near by pond to set up a draft site and a water shuttle was established. Crew remained on the scene for over 3 hours doing extensive overhaul.
The cause of the fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshall’s Office.
