9/1/2009 – At approximately 7:15 AM Caroline dispatched Station 600 (Greensboro) and Paramedic 16 for an MVC involving a tractor trailer with confirmed entrapment. Upon the arrival of Rescue 600, Officer 619 (F. Davis) reported a tractor trailer loaded with logs overturned and confirmed entrapment with a log impaling the back of the cab. Officer 619 established “Greensboro Road” command and requested aviation.
Due to the heavy entrapment Command requested additional equipment from Station 400 (Ridgely) and Station 700 (Goldsboro). State Highway was also requested for a frontend loader to assist with stabilizing and removing some of the pressure on the log impaling the cab. Crews from all three Stations worked for approximately one hour before extrication was complete.
One patient, in critical condition was transported by Trooper 4 to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore. All units cleared the scene at approximately 9:20 AM. The accident is being investigated by the Maryland State Police.
