5/7/2009 – At 1:33am the Wicomico County 911 Center alerted Station 8 Willards for an accident with injuries at the intersection of Old Ocean City Rd & Market St. Command 8 with 8-15 (D. White) onboard arrived to find a Chevy Pick Up truck that left the roadway and collided with a utility pole. As Paramedic A-8 was assessing the driver they advised Command to upgrade the call to a rescue. The driver was trapped inside the truck after it sustained heavy damage to the driver’s side door. Rescue 8 arrived on location and set up to remove the passenger’s side door and remove the roof of the vehicle. The rescue was complete in ten minutes. Due to the driver’s injuries, Command requested Maryland State Police Helicopter Trooper-4 to respond to the scene. Station 11 Powellville was alerted and requested to the scene to set up a landing zone in the baseball field which was next to the accident scene. The driver was air lifted to PRMC in Salisbury Md for treatment.
The Wicomico County Sheriffs Office was on scene and is investigating the cause of the accident.
