1/28/2009 – In the early morning hours of January 28th, 2009 the Westside Fire Department was alerted for a vehicle in the river. Crews found a Dodge Pick Up truck that had slid off the parking lot and into the river completely submerging it underneath a barge that held a crane in the area doing repair work to the bridge. Westside put out the call for the Salisbury Dive Team to respond to assist with the recovery of the truck. Divers from Westside & Salisbury went down to search the vehicle and also to strap a cable so the crew from Adkins Towing could pull it out of the water. The call was under control around 9am. It was later found out that the driver was turning around in the parking lot after seeing the construction on the bridge slid on the ice and went into the water. The driver escaped unharmed.
