1/25/2009 – More Pictures added @ 7PM 1-26-09
At 0654 hours, Sharptown Fire Department (Station 14) was alerted for a working structure fire at 502 Nanticoke Street. Mardela Fire Department (Station 9) and Laurel Fire Department (Station 81) were alerted for mutual aid. 14-15 established Nanticoke Street Command with the structure fully involved.
Delmar Fire Department (Station 74) was alerted for cover up at Station 14 but were diverted to the scene. Blades Fire Department (Station 71) was originally called to cover up at Sation 81, they were diverted to cover up at Station 14. Georgetown Fire Department (Station 77) was then called into cover up at Station 81. Hebron Fire Department (Station 5) was alerted for cover up at Station 9.
Over 65 fire fighters from 4 stations battled the blaze and the sub-freezing temperatures. Once the blaze was extinguished, crews were on scene for extensive overhaul. Crews cleared the scene at 1123 hours.
At 1317 hours, crews were alerted for smoke coming from attic area of the structure. Station 9 was brought in for man power. Crews flushed the area, pulling down all remaining wall and ceiling in the area. Crews remained on scene until 1537 hours.
