11/29/2008 – At 0756 hours, the Berlin Fire Company was alerted for a commercial building fire at 11046 Grays Corner Road. Showell was alerted for a tanker and Ocean City was alerted for two tankers. Engine 604 arrived to find a single story commercial structure with smoke showing from sides A, B and D. Captain Eric Budd established Grays Corner Road Command and requested a second alarm. The crew of Engine 604 forced entry into the building and placed a 2 1/2” handline in service. The quickly knocked the fire which was believed to be contained to a box truck located inside the building. Crews worked to ventilate the building and check for extension. As smoke cleared the building, fire was located on the second floor and roof of an addition on the A-D corner of the building. A quick knock on the fire was made by crews. Command held units for salvage, overhaul and smoke removal. Ocean City Chief David Cropper had operations. Command was terminated and units were back in service by 1100 hours. A special thanks to everyone on the scene for a job well done, as well as Bishopville Fire Department for standing by at Berlin Fire Headquarters during the fire.
