MVC w/ Rescue – Waller Rd & Jersey Rd

8/10/2008 – At 10:23pm on 8-09-08 the Delmar Volunteer Fire Department was alerted for an accident with rescue at the intersection of Waller Rd & Jersey Rd. 74 Command (74-18 A. Rementer.) arrived to find two vehicles in a ditch with one on top of the other and the driver of the car trapped inside. At this time command requested Maryland Trooper-4 Medivac to respond to the scene.
 
Rescue 74 arrived on scene led by 74-15 & (S. Johnson) and place the Hurst ‘’O’’ Cutters & Hurst Spreader’s in service. Crews worked the front & rear driver’s side doors to free the driver. The extrication was complete in about 10 minutes and EMS crews command that it would be faster to go by ground than air. The driver was packaged in loaded into Paramedic A-74 and transported to the hospital.
 
74 Command requested 2 additional ambulances to transport the driver and occupant of the Ford F150. All 3 patients that were transported to Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury Maryland. 
 
Due to the vehicle being wrapped around the utility pole, Delmarva Power was requested to respond. They had to get a special truck to the scene to grab and stabilize the pole while wrecker crews removed it from around the pole. 
 
Crews were on scene for 2 ½ hours during the alarm. Delmar FD Fire Police shut down Jersey Rd and Waller Rd in both directions in the area of the accident.
 
Maryland State Police were on scene and conducting an investigation to the cause of the crash. 
 
Responding units: 74 Command, Rescue 74, Engine 74-3, Paramedic A-74, Paramedic 16 (Salisbury), Paramedic A5 (Hebron) & the Maryland State Police.
