7/16/2008 – At 7:25am the Delmar Fire Department was alerted for an accident with injuries at the intersection of Bi-State Blvd and Foskey Lane. 74 Command arrived at that location to find nothing in the area. Wicomico EOC contacted him and told him to stand by for an upgrade. Wicomico upgraded the alarm to an accident with rescue and a corrected address of Rt.13 and Foskey Lane. 74 Command arrived at that location to find a Saturn Ion with a GMC Sierra almost in the driver seat of the small car.
Rescue 74 arrived on location and its crews set up for extrication. Crews use the Hurst tools to remove the roof and the driver’s side door. Paramedic B-74 was giving the patient treatment while the rescue was on going. It took almost 10 minutes to free the driver’s legs from where they were pinned under the steering column.
The driver was removed and loaded in an awaiting ambulance for transport to PRMC in Salisbury Md. The driver of the GMC pick up refused treatment at the scene.
Delmar Fire Police along with the Delmar Town Police shut down the south bound lanes of Rt.13 for nearly 40 minutes which caused major problems for the early morning traffic.
