4/11/2008 – Delmar fire crews were alerted for a accident with injuries and rescue on Rt.13 north in the area of Mallard Dr south of town. While enroute crews were advised that this would be involving 5 vehicles. 74 Command arrived to find several vehicles spread out over two lanes of the highway. Police officers from Maryland State Police & the Delmar Police Dept were already on scene and pulled open the drivers door of the most severely damaged car. Rescue 74 arrived and split its crew to assist the EMS and the other contained a fuel leak. EMS advised of three patients so an ambulance from Salisbury was requested to the scene. Engine 74-3 put a 1 ¾ foam line in service to protect crews of any danger during clean up. Wicomico County’s Emergency Management responded to due the large fuel leak. All patients were transported to PRMC in Salisbury Md for treatment.
Crews operated on scene for nearly an hour during heavy traffic conditions. Delmar’s Fire Police closed down 2 lanes during the alarm. Back ups were reported for 5 miles into the City of Salisbury.
