Stephen C. Calloway
Mardela-Berlin-Ocean Pines Fire
2/26/2010 - Stephen C. Calloway, 57, of Berlin passed away at his home Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, from brain cancer.

Born in Salisbury, he was a son of the late John O. ''Jack'' Calloway and Anne Calloway of Mardela Springs.

Mr. Calloway was a nationally registered emergency medical technician -- paramedic/firefighter serving more than 35 years. He began as a volunteer with the Mardela Springs Volunteer Fire Department, and later as a professional paramedic/ firefighter for both Berlin and Ocean Pines volunteer fire departments. During his paramedic career, he enjoyed teaching and mentoring a multitude of students in emergency medicine.

He was an avid reader, talented woodworker, skilled boat captain and passionate gardener. He called himself a ''simple man who loves his God with all his might and his wife and family with all his heart.''

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Jan, of Berlin; four children, Candice Bradshaw and her husband, Michael, of Mardela Springs, Heather Adkins and her husband, Wade, of Timonium, Md., Chelsea Yurik and her husband, Karl, of Berlin and MacLeod ''Mac'' Baldwin of Berlin; two grandchildren, Zoe and Charles Bradshaw of Mardela Springs; two brothers, Mike Calloway of Salisbury and Patrick Calloway and partner, Carrie Krystek, of Alexandria, Va.; and numerous beloved relatives.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Ocean Pines Volunteer Fire Department at 911 Ocean Parkway.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Ocean Pines VFD, 911 Ocean Parkway, Ocean Pines, Md. 21811; or to Coastal Hospice Inc., 2604 Old Ocean City Road, Salisbury, Md. 21801.
